2015 CALIFORNIA FAI
The weather was just as forecasted. Hot with low winds. It was reported by an F1B flyer the thermometer hit 100. Wind came up
After the 5 min flyoff. So it was decided to have a morning flyoff.
That left the balance of the later afternoon for the Sierra Cup Banquet which was attended by 60-70 competitors, wives and supporters.
Special thanks to Merry and Norm Smith for recording the scores and co CD Janna VanNest.

In the Press – 80 Years young
I just got my latest copy of Aeromodeller, it’s 80th year anniversary edition. Kudos to those who revived the magazine with some of the old stuff yet made a major effort to make it relevant today
They recently got a new editor in Andrew Boddington and while I don’t know Andrew, I did fly pylon racers with his father David Boddington back about 1980. David was a “total aviation person” like former Aeromodeller editor Martyn Cowley aka Biggles and Andrew seems to have inherited this from his father. A necessary attribute for the editor of such a journal.
A recent edition brought back a tradition with a report on the Mongolian World Champs by none other than the haggis man CHE with photos by Mike Woodhouse. Good report by people who were there and know the events.
There has been an excellent series for hard core competition guy by John O’Donnell, for many years “the man to beat” in UK FF comps.
Up to date stuff includes articles on RDT and tracking techniques with radio and GPS.
They include full size plans, control-line articles, engine tests and reports plus stuff for the sport, small field and scale flyer.
I remember as 10 year old checking in the pocket of my father’s over coat when he came from work to see if there was an Aeromodeller. His after work commute to the railway station in Wellington, NZ took him past Don France’s Hobby Shop that stocked the magazine.
Keep it chaps…
