RESULTS ANSELMO ZERI F1E WORLD CUP

On Monday, Feb. 14 it rained early in the morning and the winds were strong. This delayed the start of the Anselmo Zeri Memorial F1E World Cup by nearly 2 hours. This was also the 9th F1E Isaacson Winter Classic Contest. We flew 5 rounds into the pit with easterly winds which slowed from 7m/s to 3m/s during the contest. When the contest started the sky was overcast but later the sun came out which created good thermals. The maximum flight time for all flights was 180 seconds.

Biggles news

Hi Lads

Phew that was cold on Barkston Heath yesterday, not my normal temperatures at all so I was surprised to find myself getting out of a warm car to indulge in four maxes in F1A before the bitter cold caught up with me; fifth flight was a frostbite affected 1 min 59 seconds, still not bad with an old straight tow Flashback. As it was Plugge points time I was also out there in the chukkie box, that I had thoughtfully set up near my warm car, with Roger Heap and Chris Parry but the cold was in my muscles as I spun up the Disco Stu to much lower heights than I get when it is a liveable temperature. Still top Biggle in two Plugge events means a good start to my UK season after the disasters of the Aus Nats in flooded Queensland.

F1A front ends and simple circle tow hooks

I'm looking to fit our three circle tow F1As using electric front ends based on Brian Lavis' article in Biggles News 2011. So I was wondering if antone was sitting on three moulded F1A front end pods, tubes to fit - preferably Mike Woodhouse 17.5 to 10.2 by 950mm £12 cheapies, and three simple circle tow hooks - preferably the german white plastic ones FFN had a few years back.
All advice and offers gratefully received.

Biggles News 2011 and Disco Stu full size plan

If you want to see our thoughts for the year just email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'll send as email attachments.
Biggles News 2011 is approx 1.4Mb while Disco Stu plan is approx 100kb.

Wishing you all the best.

Traveling dangerously/marker flags

Flying from JFK to Lax for the Maxmen, I placed my three F1Q Lipo batteries into the carry on, as required by the flight rules. It also had my Walston receiver and binoculars (to reduce the weight of the suitcase full of equipment) and two books to read on the flight in the carry on. Well, I was certain that the batteries would trigger a bag inspection, which they did. The bag retained fixed on the inspector’s screen while various TSA members walked over to pear at the screen. About 6-7 minutes later the bag was brought out for a hand inspection. The nice TSA inspector told me that the screener was freaked out, observing a battery plugged into what might have been a detonation device (the receiver) with a box full of nails (the books). Humm…

The 10-minute F1B early morning flyoff on Sunday, was flown from a start line set at the south eastern corner of the field. The location was perfect, allowing almost unlimited flights in any direction. But as the freezing wind blew from the north, straight down the start line, set in a north-south direction, it quickly became evident that the lines of sight, towards the end of the flights, were partially blocked by equipment and other timers further down the line. (There were 26 fliers in the flyoff.) Had there been an X (start lines set at 90 degrees through their mid points) or a star (three lines set at 60 degrees), with flags of different colors (say yellow for one, blue for the other), the timer cum equipment obstruction would have been easily been avoided. Just say “fly from the yellow/red/blue start lines”. And flags are dirt cheap.
