SCAT Annual Report

Two weeks after SCAT ANNUAL postponement for rainy, muddy grounds & roads,
we gathered again at Lost Hills Field to once again enjoin in friendly Free Flight
competition.
Saturday, April 9 dawned with freezing temps& us staring in amazement at the
white dusting on the southwest hills. It had SNOWED!
No one had ever seen snow in April there. The chill kept our fingers from working
to sign up the entries for a while, so I delayed the start til 0830 when our
blood started to flow again.
The Wx was light and variable most of the weekend. Bluebird Wx, per Roger M.
Sat had strongest thermiks under swirling, roiling puffy clouds.
It did warm up nicely on Sunday.
All in all, a very nice weekend to be outside & flying in the valley.
We had 36 entrants flying & racking up maxes right and left.
Most anything that flew well was going up toward those clouds, even plastic bags!
This year no new records were set, but there were several very nice performances
and flyoffs.
The Malkhasyan boys, Taron & Sevak, were the only juniors attending. They
flew with enthusiasm & quite well as usual, winning their share of hardware.
Taron showed his HLG skills, winning with 6 maxes & change.
Jim Parker put his new M&K Flapper thru its paces to take F1A over Hector Diez
in a nice evening flyoff.
Brian van Nest dropped one second, to join a select group who have also missed
a full house score "by just that much".
Alex Andriukov pipped Blake Jensen by 3 seconds in F1B flyoff @ 5PM.
Both FOs were flown in quite even air, i.e., little if any helpfullness evident.
Eddie Carroll was cooking with C gas, winning by nicely maxing out.
Small towline was hard-fought as usual, with Norm Smith scoring a
well deserved win over multiple Americas Cup F1H Champ,
Brian van Something-or-other.
The electron boys, John Oldenkamp & Mike Pykelny, traded wins in F1! & E-36 respectively.
Ryan Jones won Coupe, which did little to ease his father Charlie's pain in
losing an F1B OOS.
Multiple searches failed to locate it, but there is hope during the San Valleers
meet this weekend it may show itself.
Richard Cline's nice Talon remains hidden in the deep brush as well.
Two A2s were run over unfortunately, unseen by the bikers in the waist-deep-to-a-Sevak, thick, green weeds.

A side note: Foxtails are ripe and gatorsshould be part of the
uniform of the properly dressed Lost Hills Free Flighter until the wooly
critter herds can finish theire munching tasks! You were warned...

After my esteemed table lady, Sharron Emery[thank you again!]returned
from Sunday Mass, the CD was freed up to do some flying.
With thermals still abundant, I scored some fun maxes to win Cat Glider.
Also helping tend the scoring table were Dean Clark, Merry Smith & Paul
Gross, a newish FFer from Paso Robles.
I must also thank Hector Diez and Jim Parker for their help with shed
equipment, field setup and flyoff control.
My Kudos to them all!

Those who chose to stay home missed an excellent weekend.
