Editorial

This was the 20th anniversary of the Isaacson Winter Classic.  Many of us remember Bob and LaVera as warm and generous people. Ike was a sportsman in the true sense of the word. He understood the mental and physical aspect of competition, he was through and meticulous in his construction and preparation and had a wicked sense of humor. The Isaacsons traveled extensively and had model sport friends thought the world.  When Ike and Norm created this event 20 years ago it was to bring all those people together in a event before the world cup event.  Ike being Ike it had to never the less have serious competition.

Those of us who were at Lost Hills this Sunday  can look back at day of perfect flying conditions, clear sky, gentle drift, even grass in the California desert, watching our models circling in  gentle thermal, surrounded by our families, old friends and new ones, isn't that something to give thanks for? isn't that why Ike and Norm created this event 20 years ago?

The event could not have been so successful without the help of many people, so thanks to:

Those "name" international sportsmen, like Sergy, Roland, Roy, Richard, Henning, ... who helped out by timing.  It's important for beginners and those who don't travel so much to see you guys helping and have contact with you that they would not normally do so.

Those wives, partners, friends who came to help someone but ended up by unselfishly helping others, Janna, Merry, Pat, Brigitte, Noels, ... its always hard to find a time keeper and people are often shy to ask to the point of discouraging them from taking part, so your generosity and of those whose names I've left out is always most welcome.

Thanks to Stan who make a special model - the Isaacson Pathfinder, his latest catapult glider that we used for prizes, his student Ralph who donated the electronic scales, those who helped with the set up and moving of the line.    Walt and Ted who did the LHMFA thing and Dave Parsons who ran the classic FAI Power event.

We could not have got through 2 flyoff rounds for all classes in 2 hours  and got to sporting results in all classes if it had not been the cooperation of all of you. So those who ad to work Monday thank you.

The Sloans who cooked the burgers like we did at the first events .. the are easier to work with than Randy...

Let's not forget Norm who has stuck with the event for 20 years,... is it really that long and done all the preparation that's so important to make an event line this successful.

Finally those people who supported the event and took part.

We know the event was not perfect and there were a few little gotchas but in the grand scheme of things those are not important compared with being out flying with your friends over the green grass, with the gentle drift and under the blue sky. So let's be thankful for what we have.
