Corrected 2010 Final Update

SCAT is hosting the 2010 FAI FF Finals at Lost Hills, Sept 24 thru 28. Participants have received  Finals Bulletin 1 and 2 in the Team Selection Newsletters.

We are now seeking timer help. While the Finals  is a flier-timer format, there is a need for a few additional timers. The greatest need is for Sat. and Mon, Sept 25 and 27.  We would greatly appreciate timer help.  There are  several options and incentives:
A) Volunteers, those who will time without compensation other than our thanks and the enjoyment of being on the front line in all the action
B) Paid timers, get $100 day, requires timing all rounds during a day (14 rounds plus fly-offs), payment in cash at the end of the flying day.
C) Same as B) but donate the $100 to the Jr Team fund
D) Fill-in timers, available to the Timer Administrator to fill-in as needed-- mostly during the first rounds, last and flyoff rounds. Those timing 7  rounds get a Sierra Cup Banquet  (Sat, Oct 2 )ticket, 14 rounds or more 2 banquet tickets.

The timer incentives are open to all,  our foreign fliers are welcome also. The incentives are on a first ask, first receive basis.  Please contact me by email, let me know what days you can time and which option you like.

I've gotten several requests for which days the events fly. This is set by and is in the 2011 Team Selection Program. For this Finals the days are:

Sept 25, Sat: F1B & C,   F1A fliers time

Sept 26, Sun: F1C & A,  F1B fliers time

Sept 27, Mon: F1A & B,  F1C fliers time

[in the previous SEN we had the above dates incorrect,  thanks to Aram for pointing this out].

First round will start at 7:30.  30 minutes rounds with a ten minute time gap to the next event's start time.
Full round times and pole positions will be given to the competitors during processing on Fri (Oct 24)

Hungarian Credit

It was pointed out to me that the report of the recent Hungarian Events where Lesko had 2 F1A flappers wins came from Victor Stamov's facebook posting - so thanks to Victor for collecting and sharing.

Looking for Mechanical F1A parts in the USA

Dear Roger:
I have a friend in Florida who decided to resume the F1A.
Want to build a mechanical model and is missing a mechanical timer, wingwiggler 2 position and a hook.
You can publish this?
I know there are builders in the U.S. who have pieces of this kind no longer use, and perhaps want to sell.
Those interested in the materials is Alejandro Rosso. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
From already thank you very much for everything.
Best regards.
 Lucas .S. Cuffia.

SKB Boxes

I asked Alex Andriukov where he got his model boxes from when he was in Croatia.
He said to google SKB. They tend to make gun cases but they have sizes that fit models and some have wheels on.

- [editor  comment] actually the Boxes Rob is talking about are called SKB Rail Cases made for shipping equipment.  The come in F1A and F1B sizes. I have used the F1B size for many years. SKB offer a million mile guarantee.  The F1B sized box costs under $200.  SKB make a whole range of boxes for musical instruments, tools, sporting good etc. They are based in Southern California but there are resellers in a number of places that can be found on the internet.

CIAM and our cousins the airlines

This is a prime example when CIAM - FAI should get involved. The model boxes are sport equipment.  A number of sport cases like golf, sky, surf board  are exempt of charges by all airlines. CIAM-FAI could resolve this in no time. I am building a golf box with the lower part for the models and by placing a lid on it, I can use the top part for clothing. This way only one luggage can be checked in with the 23kg. limit and plus the carry-on. For the dividing I am using ABS sheets welded in to the case which is made of the same material. By the way, I gave this idea to the Canadians two years ago. Ladia Horak, Doug Rowselle and Vidas Nikolajevas also uses the golf case with their model box inside and their clothing around it, without any problem.

- there have been instances where modelers using golf cases have had difficulties with an Airlines when the carrier found out it was not golf equipment in the golf case.
