SEN 1347 was too big and got split for some people so we are sending it again in two parts

Nov. 2009 AmCup Results
Only 5 contest left in this year’s AmCup competition. Some close races are still up for grab. I’m in the running just behind F1A leader Andrew Barron. Not that I haven’t the chances with head to head completions with Andrew at the NATs and in Denver. Not likely but we could both be surprised if Mike McKeever or Brian VanNest slipped past us. Blake Jensen just took the F1B lead with his 4 second flyoff win at Las Vegas over taking Aram Schlosberg by 2 points. Mike Roberts also came to Las Vegas and all but guaranteed his win in F1C. F1P is a race between leader Dave Rounsaville and 2007 winner Bob Hanford. F1G can’t be tighter with a tie between Tiffany O’dell and John Clapp with the tie breaker giving Tiffany the lead. Don’t forget third place Mark Belfield. Mike Mckeever has been holding the F1H lead for most of the year but Bob Sifleet, Brian VanNest and I am within striking distance. While Faust Parker got moved out of first in F1C, he remains in F1J first place but both Jean Pailet and Austin Gunder could change that. F1Q continues to grow. Bernie Crowe is in first with Frank Pollard able to take the lead with a non-Lost Hills win. Julie Parker also has a chance but needs some bonus points win. F1E remains static—limited by separation of flat-lander sites and F1E slope needs. Peter Brocks looks to triple repeat his F1E win.
SCAT is looking at some AmCup 2010 rules refinements. One is based on the unfortunate steady decline of participants and so resulting in fewer large bonus point contests which are becoming the focal to winning the AmCup competition. The current bonus points are awarded in increments of 3 entrants beyond the first 5 entrants.
Current Bonus points:
6 to 8 entrants, 1 bonus point
9 to 11 entrants, 2 bonus point
12 to 14 entrants, 3 bonus point
15 to 17 entrants, 4 bonus point
18 and more entrants, 5 bonus point
Under Study Bonus points:
6 to 7 entrants, 1 bonus point
8 to 9 entrants, 2 bonus point
10 to 11 entrants, 3 bonus point
12 to 13 entrants, 4 bonus point
14 and more entrants, 5 bonus point
The other issue has to do with rescheduling and relocation AmCup contest. This was brought to the forefront last month after a beautiful day of flying on Saturday, the next day on the Boulder City lake bed in Nevada was windy and dusty the contest was ended. Discussions started about rescheduling the contest. The AmCup rules have provision for the notification time line for contests but are silent on the location of a re-scheduled contest. Sites have moved temporary due to field availability issues. These have been worked out with the CD and clubs well before the start of the contests, rules state 30 day preferred notice and 15 day minimum notice. The one firm AmCup rule that applies is the maximum of 2 results from a single field still applied to these re-located sites.  Bill Booth (CD) and I discussed the requests and announced to the flyers that we would verify the AmCup rules and to look at the options.
Via email my initial response was to try to accommodate the requests and looked at the impacts of the up coming western contests with regard to 2009 AmCup top contenders. At the end of many emails the final decision was not to grant a re-located contest at a different site. The bottom line reasoning is there have many cancelled contests during the running of the AmCup, this is part and parcel of Free Flight and part of the competitive cycle. Setting precedence that could result in many more contests being re-scheduled / re-located which would lead to un-intended consequences.
In summary, AmCup rules have a provision to move an AmCup sanctioned contest with ample notice prior to the start of the contests, the intent is to work with clubs and CDs to respond to field availability issues.  Once a contest starts (takes registration, events flown) that can not complete the required 5 regular rounds with in the AMA sanction dates will not count for AmCup points. Clubs and CD's may per AmCup rule (see below) reschedule the contest at the original sanctioned site. This clarification will be made for the 2010 season.  Note it is completely the prerogative of the AmCup sanctioned CD-club to reschedule a contest.
More and more clubs and CDs are using a reserve day which greatly increases the chances of completing the 5 required rounds and fly-offs.  The precedence was set many years ago that allows for fly-offs to be done at different sites and this will remain as is. This involves a much small group of flyers to coordinate and requires 100% of the fly-off participants’ agreement.
Please send comments and corrections to me.

East Coast Events

Free Flight Friends,

I remind you this Saturday and Sunday November 7&8 is the Eastern U.S. Free Flight Championships at Higgs Farm in Maryland.  For details of event schedule and map and hotels see the information posted on the NFFS master calendar at the freeflight.org website.  The weather looks good for this weekend!

Attached are the contest results from Art Ellis from the September 12&13 Wilbur and Orville America's Cup and National Cup meet.  For most of us this is the first view of these scores.  Note especially the performances by Brian Pacelli and Dave Rounsaville, who both maxed out in F1B.  I was fortunate to stay ahead of Ben Thomson, Oliver Cai, Timothy Barron, Miles Johnson and several other fine competitors in F1A. Miles had a long DT flight that led to a landing on a small Island of the Walkill River. Art and Miles sought out a boat owner for a successful crossing and retrieval. See attached for various outcomes in AMA, NFFS and FAI events.

Concerning more recent meets last month, the one October 17&18 was a stormy weekend in the Northeast, and only Bob and Miriam Morris and Carroll Allen and I went to the field.  Carroll left early. I stayed the day as it improved and turned out to be quite fliable, with only moderate wind going the length of the field, and no rain accumulation.  I do not regard my flights alone as official. Later Bob and Miriam came and put up some nice HLG and Catapult flights.  At this point there are no plans to reschedule.

October 24&25 was the FAC meet put on by Tom Hallman.  There were 30 participants for the weekend, and a number of spectacular flights!  I was impressed by the extent to which they had a truely enjoyable time, no matter what the weather was.

Thermals,
Andrew Barron

Vyacheslav Bolgov

Hello Roger,

I wonder if you could  publish Vyacheslav Bolgov's advertisement below on the SCAT website, USA so that it reaches everyone across the World, please.

Whilst I have no commercial interest I can honestedly report this gentleman builds and supplies in a timely manner three types of Mechanical F1A gliders which fly very well. He keeps to his delivery dates and the models are robust, which is important to newcomers buying their first model from abroad.

Thanks

Nick Bosdet
