All original Bob Isaacson-built F1A is for sale for $325

Model number 17 of Bob Isaacson has a span of 76.1 inches with Bob
Isaacson FAI vouchers on all parts signed September 1990. It also has
the 1990 Lost Hills stamp and the 1992 Lost Hills U.S. finals decal.
Model is all wood with carbon reinforcements on the trailing edges of
the wings and stab. The wings have a balsa d-box with cloth
reinforcement. Same cloth reinforcement is also used on the fuselage.
Excellent materials and workmanship is displayed throughout. The model
uses aluminum plate circle tow hook with Koster single function
electronic timer with rechargeable battery and comes with the Koster
battery charger. Model has had some minor repairs, but is in excellent
flying condition. Pictures can be forwarded by e-mail upon request. I
intend to take this model to the Maryland and/or Wawayanda contests in
May to see this model fly one last time while it is still in my keeping.
I have flown this model only for 2-3 times in the 6+ years that it has
been in my possession. Please direct inquiries to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Gel Cells

Author : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

I need some battery help. I have been trying to find a 12v, 5 or 7AH
Gel Cell battery for my starter to take on airlines. The TSA only
requires the non spillable type but some airlines demand the electrolyte
be Gel and clearly marked on the battery. I have been all over the
internet and what I find are sealed lead acid or lead calcium with some
suppliers thinking they are Gel until reading the MSDS sheet. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

BEAR CUP, PORI FINLAND, March 9. 03

Winter has been cold in Finland. So there were more than 80 cm of ice on
Lake Pyhajarvi and mostly clear slippery ice surface with some
snow-drifts. It was safe to drive the cars in the middle of the lake.
Large, almost endless flat surface tempts to drive fast. But be careful.
It's not totally flat and it's difficult to see obstacles on white
surface. On Saturday, when we returned from the lake, there were a
SkiDoo-accident. Somebody (not attending our contest) had driven against
a 40 cm high pile of ice pieces from a big fishing hole. He flew some 10
meters and needed ambulance to the lake. Sunday morning the Finnish
F1C-fliers drove to the contest place and hit a snow-drift so that a
model in the van was broken. The van jumped and a can of lubricant
crossed the model. And that was the end of Timo Niiranen's contest.

Saturday March 8. was the scheduled date for this years' BEAR CUP. The
morning was misty. Together with 6 to 8 meters wind it was too bad for
flying. Till afternoon mist decreased but wind got over 10 meters. The
jury decided to move the contest to reserve day Sunday, after a long and
serious discussion. They knew, that many people, including many of the
organizers, would go home on Saturday night. Only half an hour later
wind decreased to 5 m/s! And we lost some hours of good contest weather.

Sunday was little better. Less mist and wind 4 to 7 meters and we could
start the contest. Still some flights were lost to mist or clouds. There
were nice lifts but enough bad downers where models came down before
three minutes. So we needed no fly-offs. And it was ease for
organisation. Visibility was not good for 5 or 7 minutes flights.

In F1A Matti Lihtamo of Finland made all maxes. Jari Valo, Wcup Champion
2002, lost 3 seconds and Estonian junior Eldar Ahmetov 10 seconds
beating World Champion Pelle Findahl, who's model was lost in clouds.

In F1B Mike Woolner from GB made full score. Maxim Solodow of Russia
lost almost a minute on last flight, but was second. The third was young
Finn Janne Isotalo before Russel Peers.

In F1C British John Guthbert won clearly. Juri Roots of Estonia got 0 on
first round; over run, and not enough time to refly.

Coupe Fly-offs

Roger:

No one that I have talked with is particularly pleased with the early
Sunday afternoon mini event fly-offs. Yet to delay them until thermal
conditions abate means getting home late. That also is very
unsatisfactory. So I would like to solicit ideas on ways to solve this
problem.

Sunday morning at the SCAT Annual there was very little drift at 8am.
This is not always the case at Lost Hills, but we could have gone for a
5-minute extended max. I am in no way thinking of another Super Max!
This extended max would have very likely eliminated the need for a 6th
round. This too has drawbacks, but I think I would prefer this to flying
off in strong thermals. (I personally was not in the fly-off, but I
would have liked to have seen how it ended and to have been there for
the awards.) It also would be interesting to see which coupes can put up
the longest flights without lift. Is this the only solution? Of course
not. Let's have some other suggestions and comments.

Ken didn't mention all the good publicity for FF and the headlines we
dreamt up. Can't you just see it:

SEN / Chase Bike

Chase Bike for Sale:

A friend has the following bike for sale - 1977 Yamaha YZ 250 model
that always ran strong and reliably. Hasn't used it for at least the
last 10 years and has finally faced the reality that he is not going
to use it again and would rather have the space back in his garage.
He has the manual, pink slip, and has kept the registration up to
date. New knobby rear tire. Looks very clean. JPEG images available
by email. Asking around $500. Contact Graham Gyatt
