Does anyone know where I can find a plan of the Yugoslav 45T,please? It was
a twin with long nacelles and the pilot flew the ship from a prone position
which would make the fuselage quite slim,it would apppear.

I am looking at buying a GPS and this current discussion interests me.
The Garmin Summit has been recommended. I have borrowed a friend's one
to try out but I have had some problems with using it and I wonder if
other owners could comment.
The attractive feature to me was the "Sight and Go" function using the
electronic compass. The idea is that the unit can be pointed to where
the model is using the sighting marks and the unit projects a line along
that bearing. You then go to the map page and can see graphically where
you are in relation to the line as well as have a reading of how far off
line you are. No worries as to how far off line you are or losing
distance landmarks that stress us using an ordinary compass!
The problem I had was that the "Sight and Go" seemed to have an error of
up to five or six degrees which tranlates to a large error at a distance
(despite reloading the software and calibrating the compass etc etc).
Next I tried another appraoch. I took a bearing using my magnetic
compass, set the GPS to "Sight and Go" and turned the unit until it had
the same bearing and entered it - error gone. I just seemed to be a
little frustrating (and time wasting) to have to do this extra step. The
Summit unit does not seem to have the capability to project a bearing
into the distance. This feature is present on the much more expensive
Vista unit but looking at the manual I downloaded isn't a quick thing to
acheive (and still requires that a magnetic compass bearing is taken).
Can other users comment on their experience with "Sight and Go" on their
Summit / Vista units.

The GPS future is waiting

At the Baltic Cup in Lithuania Frederic Aberlenc of France showed me
his latest development: on-board GPS transmitting the plane's position
via radio to his walkie-talkie and a modem to an eTrex which shows him
the exact location continuously - every 50m in the air, every minute
on the ground, air range better than 50km, ground range over 5km, 8h
on a battery charge. All for 40g flying weight, thus suitable for F1A
or F1C.
No worry about track error, just go to the landing spot any way you
want!
Main disadvantage: Just a bit too heavy for F1B ...
He will demonstrate it again at the Puszta Cup.

Garmin IQ-3600

Garmin is making a combo palm-pilot and GPS device called the IQ-3600.
It is due out any day now. For all of us who use electronic timers and
need a GPS to help find our models since we can't see worth a hoot this
may be the all in one answer we have been looking for. Price is $580.00
ouch! If I could get them to build in a receiver for my Walston
transmitters I would be in hog heaven. Heck, I could even get rid of my
baggy pants and wear normal shorts. Here is a photo of the Garmin. I
suggest you start figuring out how to justify this thing to your wife!
I'll let you know what strategy works for me!

Mac the techie bigot.

Dear all,
You can now find all informations concerning Poitou contest on Poitou
web site:
www.poitouaero.com
Some pages are written in English language: just click on the British
flag!
You can download the 2003 Poitou entry form, and also a list of hotels
around Thouars.
Some news for the next (2004) Junior World Champs in France:
It will be held in Moncontour. The flying field will be the one which
has been used for the two minutes Poitou contest and several times for
the French Free Flight National Champ. In fact, this field is quite
larger than the one used in Noize for the traditional Poitou F1ABC
contest. It is farmers fields, harvested, flat with very few obstacles
(only a few isolated trees.)
The dates will be (+/- one day...) from 7 august to 13 August with
Beauvoir (14 flights contest) before that and Poitou after the Junior
champs.
The first official meeting of the organizing committee has been held
last saturday.
There will be a web site where all information will be available.
According to the decisions taken at the last CIAM meeting, the power
class will be flown on the same way as for the 2003 Euroepean champs in
Poland: possibility to have teams of four competitors if at least one is
flyong F1P, the three best results are counting for the team
classification.
More news later on...

Pierre Chaussebourg.
