Hi Roger-
I am recently back into model building after many years. I am now
working on a model that comes with Esaki Japanese tissue. I'm looking
for some info on the best way to attach it to the frames. Also, which
side of the tissue is the up side. One side has a has a shine, and is=
smoother than the other.
Thanks for your help.

A note for any tech-heads out there messing with electronic timers. I
just
discovered how to use the RS-232 port on a Sony Clie for programming my
timers. The port is available on two pins of the 18 pin connector used for
USB and power, even though these pins are not brought out. The logic is
opposite that of a Palm and the voltage swings from 0 to 3V, instead of -5
to +5 on a Palm, so interfacing with a low voltage timer chip is real nice.
So with some custom hacking, a nice cable can be attached to that connector.
If anybody wants to know which pins these are, just let me know.
Also, there are several nice public domain terminal programs available for
the Palm or Clie, which make it easy to talk RS-232 to a custom timer. I'm
using one called "ptelnet" which can be downloaded after searching the
internet. I've got to admit that it is a pure pleasure to use a small PDA
device to program a timer after years of using a laptop PC because I've been
stubbornly making my own custom timers rather than using the more commercial
devices.
Lastly, Roger mentioned our VW (not VM) Westfalia van a few issues back.
Brian & I have discovered that this is quite a lucky vehicle, and must be
the reason for Martyn Cowley's great success over the years ;-). Since
using this vehicle in a few contests this fall, Brian & I have flown 41
regular rounds, me dropping only 2 seconds and Brian only 8, and Brian would
have been perfect except for hitting the antenna on an RV. We haven't been
quite so lucky in the flyoffs, but we'll be there next time. After my model
stalled in the final flyoff round at Livotto's, letting Victor, Ben, and
Ernesto beat me, I've been flying gliders 2 or 3 times a week, have got a
brand new airplane going, have re-trimmed about 3 models, etc. So the next
time I see you guys in the flyoff, no more mercy! ;-)
I realized one good thing about competion flying - it is a real motivator to
make us do good things. The motivation to get out of bed early, run, fly,
innovate, work, build, repair, etc. is healthy. Sport flying is fun too,
but I'm sure I'm working harder at this, and getting more out of it because
I want to do better in the flyoffs!

Hi Roger,
We are holding the 50th King orange the last three days of the year. Looks
like a really big one. Ray Matthews of FUBAR fame was the CD of the first
King Orange, and will be the CD of the 50th one.
If you can cut down the entry form and put it on SEN, we would appreciate
it. I
