Stonehenge Cup results
======================

After a fine week the contest was run at Sculthorpe in cool (15-20C),
breezy (3.5-4.5 m/sec) conditions under a solid overcast on both
days. Conditions were dry except for rounds 5 and 6 in F1B/C. The
breeze was a little less on F1A day and the thermals were somewhat
larger and more powerful. Sculthorpe is an inactive airfield in east
Anglia. It is approximately triangular and measures almost 3 Km
across the base by 2 Km from base to apex. The wind direction on both
days gave us almost 2.5 Km of retrieval space on the airfield; very
few flights ended off the field during the rounds.
The attached file contains the complete results from the Stonehenge
Cup, run on the 14th and 15th of September, 2002.

Martin Gregorie

Re: Supermax/Gregorie. Yeah, it's a perennial
nightmare, computers at FF contests, isn't it? Funny,
the only time in the UK I've seen a computer used to
monitor scores it was a complete screw-up. What's
wrong with a couple of felt-tip pens and common sense?
Graham Bryant.
Supermax

If people want to get rid of the Supermax, the best way is not to hope that it
will happen.
The best way is for a country to formaly put a remit forward to the CIAM meeti
ing.
That way
- you know it will be on the agenda,
- you know that it will be disussed and voted on
- people will have advance warning, and can advise their reprentitives how to
vote.

Fuel Proof Paint
================

There is no really fuel proof paint that does not use a activator or
catalyst. Due to the lack of epoxy paints I am using a Dupont product,
NASON 496-00 Clearcoat and 483-78 Clearcoat activator. You need to
spray it on, no thinning, and it provides a fuel proof surface that is
superb in both appearance and durability. It will stand up to 100%
nitro with no problem. You can apply it over most anything, nitrate,
aerogloss, enamel, etc. It sets up dry to the touch in less than an
hour. There are other similar products with Imron being one. Problem
with these activated materials is that they are very toxic and should
only be used outdoors spraying down-wind while wearing a respirator.
They can be obtained at an auto paint store.
They also have pigmented products that are activated but you need to use
the clearcoat over the top so there is no advantage in their use. Cost
for the clear coat is rather high at about $40 per quart including
activator. I have been using it for over two years with no
deterioration noted even on high nitro AMA Power models. It is good
stuff and available - maybe not in California.

Fellow modelers,
It is with regret that I must cancel the 2002 Southwest FAI Challenge.
My schedule has been overcome by numerous events beyond my control.
My sincere thanks for your support over the years, and I hope to see you
at the Southwest FAI Challenge in 2003.
[ Roger and Alan - please post this cancellation on the on the SEN and
the NFFS web site respectively, for the benefit of all who may have been
planning to participate this year. Thanks.]

Dear Free Flighters,
This is the announcement of the Skyscraper Annual, October
19-20 at Barron Field, for FAI, AMA, and Nostalgia free flight,
held in conjunction with the Skyscalers for FAC and SAM-7 for
Old-timer. Note, for those who received the earlier draft,
the schedule has indeed been adjusted here to account for
the daylight hours. (We moved the flying periods a half hour earlier
on the 19th). Thanks to Art Ellis and others who looked it up, we
know for Oct 19 that morning civil twilight begins at 6:46 am
and sunrise at 7:14 am and that sunset is at 6:11 pm followed
by the end of civil twilight at 6:39pm.
We will have access to fields on both sides of the river/canal.
Hope to see many of you there!
Thermals,
Andrew Barron

applying cap strips
====================

I'm trying to save some weight on the new F1B. I've usually stuck the cap =
strips down with CA, but I have trouble getting just the right amount on, =
usually I wind up with too much glue, and weight. I once tried epoxy, but =
even after I wiped the carbon with acetone, they still did'nt bond very =
well, I was able to peel them off with minimal effort.
What adhesive should I use/how do I apply just the right amount to the =
cap?
Thanks
Jim.
