Can anyone supply the coords of the "Hollowing" section? The model
was profiled in the NFFS Sympo #34 (2001). I can't find the section
referred to (SKBFW) and blowing up the drawing produces a very
inaccurate ragged line. At least two flying wing enthusiasts in
England would be very grateful!

Skyscraper Annual, Results for FAI, AMA, and Nostalgia

The Skyscraper Annual at Barron Field, Wawayanda, New York,
October 19-20, 2002 was again well attended, with participants
in FAI, AMA, Nostalgia, FAC, and Oldtimer. Here I give the
results for FAI, AMA, and Nostalgia events. Both Saturday
and Sunday mornings were delightfully calm and produced some
good performances. Saturday at 10:30am a storm came through
with extreme winds the rest of that day, such that the
completion of Saturday's events was moved to Sunday the 20th.
Picking thermals Sunday afternoon proved to be a special
challenge as they would come through very rapidly with a
very brief window of opportunity to catch the thermals that
would take the planes past the tree-line to the second sod
farm on the other side.

In F1A and F1B the best at handling the conditions were Tzvetan
Tzvetkov and Charlie Jones, respectively, with Bob Sifleet and
(FAI Junior) Sarah Radziunas right behind. Dick Wood was on
course for another fine performance, though his efforts were
cut short by having flights that put both his top models far
off field onto distant black dirt farm fields (made soft by
recent rains). The good news for him is that he found and
retrieved both. Aram Schlossberg had an out-of-sight last
flight (failed DT), which he was fortunate to retrieve many
miles down wind thanks a search by car for the radio-location
signal.

Tom Ioerger and Bob Sifleet won the F1G and F1H mini-events
with fine performances to strengthen their America Cup
positions.

Tom Jones came from Ohio (with his brother Charlie) and
swept the Hand Launch and Catapult events, against some
fine New England competition, strengthening his position in
the National Cup.

In the gas events, Tom Kerr, Bob Geyer, Gene Pailet and Mike
Cook flew especially well.

In AMA rubber events, Dick Ivers showed his P-30 prowess, while
in Mulvihill, yours truely picked up his first rubber win.

Some new families came from Connecticut, as part of Art Ellis'
program at the Eli Whitney Museum, to their first big contest
in support of the efforts by new juniors Richard Swartwout,
Oliver Cai, Kyle Lindell, and Marian Whitney,
while continuing program members Josh Revkin, Nathan Coste,
Ben Thompson, Sarah Radziunas, as well as the Barron and
Rousseau kids, continued to hone their skills.

Thermals!
Andrew Barron

Alert!!
The special sh-t used to feed high performance flies (a special US
government byproduct) has been taken off the civilian market. This is
apparently linked to the administartions decision to withhold 1% of pay
raises for civilian employees due to the current terrorist threat.

Efforts by the distributor, FAI Fly Supply (www.faiflysupply.com) to find,
another domestic supplier have (surprisingly) failed. Overseas suppliers
have been ruled out do to problems with high handling costs. Some of this
sh-t is already showing up on E-bay.

The US representative on the FAI rules making subcommittee has been alerted
and is proposing several rule changes. His concern is that young modelers
have not had a chance to collect flies of sufficient quality and qiantity as
those of us who have been collecting them for years.

The proposed rule changes include:
1. A reduction in fly weight to .3g (as proposed by Peter King).
2. A return to all balsa, non-auto surface fly powered models or "Nos-Fly".
3. Allow flies fed on dog poop only (hard to verify at the field).

The Brazilian representative is proposing a change to mosquito power
however, concerns by countries affected by the West Nile Virus are likely to
veto this proposal. There is also concern that those of use with an
extensive collection of flies will not be able to get rid of them.

Clearly this is the end of free fly-t as we know it. I for one have started
to fly "indoor butterfly" using a new sub-micro R/C unit.

Flypower... A question about power boosting substances....

I seem to recall that my father's story about Fly Powered
Aircraft included a bit of info about boosting output of the
powerplant. In the '20's or '30's, this was done by putting a
drop of Turpentine on the hindquarters of the powerplant. The
2k3 equivalent might result in use of metabolic steroids during
training and then methamphetemines. Therefore, I urge the AMA
and CIAM to be alert for such fly abuse and make haste with
rules and a thorough urine testing program. Thermals, Steve

With my burning passion for F1B and Jimmy Allen now thoroughly squelched by
the daunting prospect of cutting rubber strips from old inner tubes I have
decided to give FAI Power a college try.

Please! Is there a financially distressed F1C flyer -- surfeited with
superfluous Stroker Galbreathed side port Nelsonian engines in top shape --
willing to part with one at a bargain rate so I can afford to see what all
the noise is about?

with a frozen smile of anticipation -- and syringe in hand -- I eagerly
await the needed solution to my desperate craving.
