Apparently, my description of the solution was not graphic enough.
What I suggested was merely replacing one strand of 1/8" rubber by two
strands of 1/16" providing a motor of 26 strands of 1/8 and two
strands of 1/16" from the same batch of rubber. The stripping
involved is minimal. Each full 35-gram motor would require only about
28" of 1/16. I can strip several yards of rubber in just a few
minutes. No way would I attempt to strip the whole 35 grams to 1/16.
By the way, it isn't even necessary to strip it evenly to provide
exactly 1/16. I observed the Hungarian indoor team at a World Champs
and they used two different widths of rubber with two knots to make
their motors! It takes a little more math to come up with exactly
34.3 grams of rubber before lube, but the calculations are simple.

In addition to my interest in the Baby Bee 40 event, I have been with egg
cartons too. Attached is a photo of a simple model made from the top of a
twelve egg carton (wing/pylon) and an eighteen egg carton (stab & fins.
Fuselage is balsa and the prop is from a Delta Dart or Testors Strato
Streak. It flies very well on a loop of 1/8" rubber. I will e-mail plans
(though they are scarcely necessary) to anyone interested. My address is

Some notes about the design: 1.) The tripple fin is necessary for lateral
stability. 2.0 The center of the carton used for the wing is cut with a
slot for the motor stick thus becoming a pylon. 3.) 1/16" incidence is
built into the wing, none in the stab. 4.) Polyhedral is achieved by
holding a ruler over the foam and bending it. If the foam cracks on the
bottom, rub elmers into the crack and let dry. 5.) Fuselage is 13.5" long,
with 9.5" between nose and rear hook.
