Subject: International HLG-competition coming up. Enter NOW !

Dear friends,

The extremely brutal aeroclub of Krebro in Sweden, MFK Nimbus,
invites competititors from all over the world to attend in a
mail-in-result-HLG competition. We're dealing with the toughest of all
aeromodelling classes, the free flight HLG class.

We know there is many skilled launcher out there, just waiting to step
into the Hall of Fame, so please re-send this mail to anyone you know
who might have an interest in a real sport event.

But, first of all, visit the competition homepage at:
http://www.torget.se/users/e/enebog/nimbusopen/

After this competition, we will prepare a HLG-world ranking list, which
will be updated and exposed on the Internet.

Ideas to keep the Luddites Stimulated
--------------------------------------

Hardy B was on about automatic gear box .. actually that's not as far
fetched as it sounds because a variable pitch prop has many of the same
advantages. In a recent magazine I noticed they now have variable pitch
props for the electric R/C models. I'm not sure if the they could take the
vibration or rpm of a F1C motor, they should be able to take the power as
rare earth electric motors have an awful lot of power. It might work well
in conjuction with Evgeny's gearbox. Those carbon props for electric
flight look pretty exotic too. Of course in an R/C model you vary the
speed with a servo but for those who love Free Flight I'm sure it would
work almost as well connected to
your Seelig clockwork or Austin pneumatic timer.

Roger,
Re the proposal by George Xenakis on Electronic Timers, in SCAT
Electronic News 14 May 1998.

I think that George has come up with a very good proposal.
While dealing with the very complex, developing and fluid issue of
electronics in free flight he has come up with something that preserves
the essence of free flight that we know (and love).
What his proposal seeks to do is allow the use of electronic timers, and
most existing technology, but prevents the cat from getting out of the bag
and limits the controls that can be used, so the free fight remains free.
Roger can still use and develop his electronic timers as timers, but they
cannot become auto pilots with onboard intelligence and control.
Way to go George !!!.

Does anyone else have opinions ?.
