Altimeter use confusion
From: Stuart Darmon
Roger,
it's rather sad that Mr. Achterberg feels the need to say that people who expressed opinions that he didn't agree with "must like to bitch". Furthermore his guess is wrong. I for one have indeed lost a contest because my model wasn't seen by the timekeeper, more than once. In fact he seems to be conflating the use of altimeters to protest timing errors with altimeter flyoffs, where altitude at a certain duration determines the result. Unless, that is, in his distinguished career he never had a flight that looked good for a couple of minutes but fell out of lift and dropped; or that looked dead, but contacted helpful air low down and hung on to win.
At any rate we lost the argument so we will just have to stop bitching and set about retro-fitting venturi ducts in our fuselages.
Stuart
P.S Mike is right that Allard deserves thanks. I don't agree with him but he ha's a great guy who has put a lot of work into this with the motive of making things better.
