I went to Waegell Field Saturday the 22nd to see what our wet Spring has
done to the field. Looks like we have a pretty good conditions for this
weekends Nor Cal. There are a few wet areas but generally the grass is not long and
the majority of the field looks good. While there were some puddles, the
relatively dry forecast might eliminate a number of those...and bo cows so far!
The grass is a medium height with some nice wild flowers growing on most of
the filed....so if the medium grass doesn't help enough, there will be nice
flowers for an appropriate grave for your latest F1C or J (or my new Mini
Pearl). Seriously, the field looks good, no construction equipment on the
fringes so Waegell looks ready for an America's Cup event. Don't forget our
Banquet Saturday Night at the Elks.. time to end the Spring Break and hope to see
the SoCalers up in Sacramento. It will be like flying in Europe and $3 a
gallon gas is cheaper than flying to France. Look forward to a good turnout.

OK I understand the re-entry idea and from a National Cup view point it
is necessary to retain the original score of the flier who re-entered
for determining the final standings for NC points. Current indoor and
outdoor NC rules state,"Competition Regulations, Events and Safety Code,
and NFFS Nostalgia Rules and Events as written must be used at all
locations for the NC Events. No exceptions. " Since re-entry is not
covered via AMA or NFFS it is not allowed for NC Purposes. That is
however not to say that the CD cannot allow re-entry. To be kosher from
a NC viewpoint he must keep two sets of books and report NC results
based on the initial entry results. If there is precedent for re-entry
in NC competitions wherein the re-entry results were reported to me I
will disallow the results if I find out.20

Now for my personal viewpoint. I think it is totally unfair to those
flying an event to allow re-entry by individuals wishing to improve
their standings. One might say that the individual who got beat by a
re-entrant also has the opportunity to re-enter but what if there is no
time left, the original winner has other events to fly, or just doesn't
want to fly again. If we are that hurting for a few more bucks lets
increase the original entry fees. An individual has the option of
flying for "fun" after that individual blows their "official" flights.
If those "fun" flight times beat the official winner of the event the
individual has the hollow satisfaction of knowing that he can beat the
official winner given enough tries. The same applies for re-entry.=20

The MMM club has been operating this way for more 20 years at our
monthly meets. we do not allow re-entry at our FAI or Rocky Mt. Champs.
So, come on out to Denver and give this system a test. ALL of our
meets are National Cup events.

contests.
i believe we used to do this years ago when i flew in
the north east.
what would be the cut off?
how many times could yoy pay to re enter?
soppose you had a string of 10 maxrs and droped the 11
max and somebody had made twelve maxes would you be
allowed to re enter at this time?
or would the re entry be for the first three offical
flights only?

Hi all!!

Bill Shailor brought that up. You would have to guess that a lawyer
would think of that!!

My thought is that if you re-enter, then you lose the points- Notta-
nothing....This would allow a person that wishes to do the re-entry
thing to fly for the contest win only. I can see this as a neat way of
flying a model, in competition conditions, to trim it. No the question
would be, how do you handle the points for someone further down the list.
We need to think of that now. Soemone smarter than me can come up with a method
to solve that....

So, that is my idea!!

This article describes a RC version of the Champion glider, with weight 565
g, and of course a second spar which takes the hinge for the rear flap.
Details about the original design are very few, so that an English
translation would be rather useless. What is said is that the construction
was very difficult, so the model got only rare brothers.

As far as you commentary re Aquila shortcomings, I
have only seen the Aeromodeller article and small plan
views, but have similar thoughts as to if/when I build
one, it will not be assym, nor have flimsy boom nor deep
u/c stab section.
I think a bit of washin, 30 sec glide circles and
probably flatbottomed stab or RSG-29 type section with
a bit of upsweep. will be the ticket.
Your stab overlifting comment matches my observations
of similar force arrangements.
In 1979 during the Taft WC the Chinese A2 fliers were
the only team to make full scores in the difficult 1st
round. They came unstuck with spin ins later when the
strong thermal came up. I felt this was due to the highly
u/c stab sections in conjunction with CGs too rearward
for those conditions.

As for your Czepa website observations, I believe you
were seeing the R/C version he made, with the stab
control elavators mentioned in the text.

There is the drwg for his '51 WC winner 'Zahnstocher',
german for 'Toothpick' along with text on the R/C version.

I have a general query: do the wing jigs still exist with
some fline modeler, I wonder?

The only negative I can imagine is when the event is sanctioned
for National Cup points accumulation.
How would you determine what would constitute the
scores to use for the National Cup submission & credit?
There is precedent for such a situation.

reentry flights were disallowed in those cases.

Some further thought might reveal a solution.

We used re entries in both Cleveland,OH and Lansing, MI in the seventies.
They were great for small contests. It gave those with only a few models
a chance to fly more during the day. We did not eliminate existing scores,
but did only count the best one.

The flyers liked the idea and it did swell the club treasuries a bit.
I can not remember anybody winning an event with rentry, but many placed
who otherwise may not have. Many of these contests were held in the late
fall, winter, or evening time.

Why you may ask?

Too much traffic. When Bob Hatschek published his report of the Skyscrapers
Anniversary in the SCAT on-line newsletter he also included a link to our
Anniversary picture page. Well for the next couple of days after it was
posted our website's traffic increased from an average of 25-35mb a day to
over 162mb and 107mb on two consecutive days. The day after I posted all the
photos our traffic increased to 130mb. All these traffic increases put us
over our monthly allotment.

But don't despair, our site will be back up and running on May 1st.
