Alarming Disconnect

The disconnect between flyers and rules-makers is alarming. The F1c four second rule was JUST ONE of a raft of proposals put forward by GBR, many of which would have disqualified nearly every model on the field - in F1a, b and c.   And this one ended up passing. It doesn't DQ models, it only makes many worthless.

While I don't fly the event and I don't think I have ever met Mr. Culthbert, it strikes me that he is possibly a bit more than the typical F1c flyer. He has a long record of F1c accomplishment both in his country and internationally. A Fleet trophy winner, he has written about the sport in the BMFA journals. In short, he is a leader in his sport and involved in his country's model aircraft leadership. Is Mr. Cuthbert's opinion representative of other GBR F1c flyers?

If yes, why is GBR putting forth rules changes that its F1c flyers seem to so strongly oppose?    Is this also the case with the proposed rule changes put forth in F1A and B?   Only, these disciplines were spared the impact of change?

Clearly there is no substitute for making sure your representatives hear how you feel PRIOR to decisions being made.

I try this now. As responce to Mr Guttaberkka, there was also one representative from Finland than Sandy. Jari Valo is our CIAM-delegate and he has flown F1C, also in WCamps. He is one of best manns to 2,5 cubiccm motors.

F1C?

I don't agree with these rule changes. This display of disrespect towards one band of aviation is sicking. I say a protest or petition is in order. It will take all of the flying community to make this happen.
If no appeal or amendment, the AMA contests pick up some great entries. Meaning, the builder of the model rule is gone, now we can fly our C's in open gas. 9 sec. engine runs!!! Holy smokes. With 3 min maxs.
It almost makes me laugh in a way. Great job!!! Should make for an interesting 2016.

Idea for a transition experiment?

If the contest organizers would just offer vintage F1C events to be flown concurrently with the "modern" F1C, with different engine run rules, it might cause a resurgence as far as participation goes. If for no other reason it would be a door into the event for new flyers. Now there is no path into the event that doesn't cost multi-thousands of dollars. Right now, the cost is prohibitive except for a few retired old farts. It looks like the next FAI team selection in the US will be down to probably 6 or 7 entries, possibly even less. Most contests don't even list F1C any more because the guys with the bbm's (big buck models) are not willing to risk the models for a non-team oriented event. They don't even have qualification contests any more. Just sign up, pay up, and fly. We need a modification to the rules to allow a model, call it F1C-2, that would include shorter wings, no carbon, with no more than 2 surface changes in the flight. Rudder and stab. 2 meter wing span, 7 sec engine run 2.5cc engine, no gears, no pipes. In other words Vintage F1C. Fly it concurrently with new rules. Have a few meets with the original rules, and then modify either or both to gain parity, then stand back and see which one endures.

1. 190 cm This is the 190 cm BE6949 FVNC2 LDA F1B. This is the best Canadian F1B right now and is what Tony and Ladi will use in Mongolia in the flyoffs and during the rounds if conditions allow. This has the best sink rate of any F1B out there right now. All fittings, same as the 180 cm model above; front end new Vivchar VP, and on weight at 200g without rubber but with bobbins etc. Model is trimmed and ready for competition. $1400

2.Classic Tony Mathews six panel with vivchar/stephanchuck fittings, Andriukov front end modified by Stephanchuck for external DPR. 1 servo with black magic electronics, stephanchuck blades, vivchar fuselage and pylon. $1000

3. Standard Optar (Elena) fixed pitch F1B ...right now it is a mechanical models but I can upgrade to electronic fairly easily $600.

2017 USA Team Selection Program approved

could you please post the following in the SEN:
The 2017 USA FAI Team Selection Program has been approved by the participants. The voting for program approval ending April 30, 2015. There were a total of 27 votes with 23 in favor and 4 opposed. The low voter turn out is a concern and we hope to see more participation in the program over the next year. The final copy of the program can be found on the NFFS Website.
You may now enter the program by contacting Colleen Pierce (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or calling her at AMA. A participant may enter the 2017 Free Flight Team Selection Program by paying $90 per event to AMA for those who are 25 years or older at the time they enter the program, and $25 for those who are 24 years or younger at the time they enter the program.

Scores from all eligible contests starting on April 1, 2015 to the official date of approval of the program, April 30, 2015, may be counted retroactively for time accumulation, provided the participant enters the program within the first 30 days after that approval date, which would by May 30, 2015.

America’s Cup Contest

Lost Hills Association membership required.
Timers This is a fly one flight, time one flight contest. Please buddy up with another
flyer for each event. If you are new to Lost Hills and do not know any other flyers please
see me and I will set you up with another flyer. For all fly-offs you need to bring a timer
to the line and a random pull of the time cards will select your timer for the flight. Thank
you in advance for your corporation on this subject.

F1GHJQ and Vintage FAI Power will have Round 1 timed to the ground. Round
one will be used to determine the winner if two or more are tied after the second flyoff
