Last Wednesday Bob Hatschek suffered a minor stroke and was taken to

St. Francis Hospital. Bob is in a stable condition and will require some

rehab at the Rusk Institute in the City, beginning next week. At this stage

phone calls and e-mails are premature but Lucy thinks he would enjoy

cards from fellow fliers. Their address is: 316 Grosvenor St. Douglaston,

NY 11363.

Next FFQ Issue

For our subscribers, in print and Digital edition, the new issue has come out with a good spread of articles. Brian Eggleston, whose F1A airfoils are causing much attention in the contest world, speaks about the process of designing a high performance F1A airfoil with the aid of the XFoil program. The heights reached on the bunt by models equipped with his low-drag airfoils verify well the calculations. There are also two articles on trimming competition models: F1A models with a difference are presented by Edgardo Figueroa. These are models with completely unloaded horizontal stab, and the article describes some of the techniques used to place it outside the wing wake. Jean Wantzenriether continues with his series on trim of rubber models with locked surfaces. Jean presents a very realistic story of the triumphs and frustrations of his method and the refinements of the trim possible by following Hacklinger's procedures.

The recent Free Flight World Championship in Croatia is reported here, with part 1 of a three-part report. This one focuses in the F1A category, probably the one that exhibits the greatest advances. Reports on the F1B and F1C competitions will follow in the next issues.

P30 fans will be well served with the "Saturno 3" , the winner of the last Argentinian Nationals. This model by Alexander Cruz has an outstanding climb, product of careful design from an aeronautical engineer. Twin Pushers are revisited, with probably the last published TP design: the DeLA Mater Twin Pusher of 1941. Gene Wallock contributes from his vast experience on this type of model a detailed article on building and flying these models, with many practical suggestions of equipment and procedure.

Andy Crisp's superb book of FF model plans is reviewed and there is also the first part of the biography of Bill Brown, the designer and creator of the famous Brown Junior engine, an engine which was the first practical, affordable internal combustion engine in modelling, and which changed the face of our hobby when it appeared in the middle 1930's.
One of the best news for scale fans is a new article by Bill Henn. He presents in this issue his almost invincible Dornier Falke, a 24" rubber scale model of a 1922 German design, a model of outstanding flight characteristics. There is a detailed plan and extensive background on the original aircraft. Also on the topic of scale, we have a Peanut Scale model, with a plan by Emmanuel Fillon of the interesting Potez 60, a high wing trainer designed in France in the middle 30's.
