Following up from Rob, I'd just like to add that many F1A hooks are
quite small. I was surprised to see how similar in size the M&K hook and
the old Hatschek hook are, and the latter was well suited to F1H models.
The main difference is that usually a lighter spring would be needed,
but this can be self made if the hook manufacturer doesn't supply one.

Getting mail-fail to the posted address...
Mike Woodhouse at http://www.freeflightsupplies.co.uk/ can supply lots
of stuff.
I have used his plastic [Czech?] hooks with some slight modifications
for the last 10 years and have had very few problems with them, just
with me! They are quite easy to work with.

which I am willing to part with.

I have built quite a few F1H gliders with another one planned soon.
And I have been through this process of trying to find a suitable tow
hook.
Do not look for hooks that are slightly smaller for a smaller model, you
will not find them.
My suggestion (unless you want to make your own) is to use an F1A
towhook, but with a lighter spring to give you a suitable unlatch
tension.This may seem overkill, but it is the best solution.
For my next model I have bought an M&K towhook, and Mikhail Kocharev was
able to change the spring for me in just a few minutes. This hook is
very well engineered and I have no doubts that it will do a great job.
Sorry I am unable to give your contact info for M&K, but I am sure that
others here can help.
Victor Stamov is another excellent F1A supplier who I can recommend.
I will send you his latest list which has contact info for all his
agents.

An outstanding few days of FF competition has been concluded at the Muncie
Indiana pre-Nats and Nats contests. Many thanks to George Batiuk, Chuck
Markos, Art Ellis, John Sr and Jr Lorbiecki and all the Jr pre-NATs

There are approximately 14 remaining AmCup contests. These remaining
scores can potentially change the final points total. The Jr Team Selection
points are the primary deciding factors in the final team selection. There
are other factors described in the Team Selection Program that can
influence the team selection such as minimum performance expectation (3.4),
travel related guardianship (4.0) and possible funding constraints (5.0).
The complete Excel score sheet will be posted on the NFFs website.

The F1A,B,P Junior WC will take place 21st to 25th of August in the vicinity
of Magdeburg about 160 km West South West of Berlin. August 18th to 20th we
will offer the yearly F1A,B,C-World Cup (Salzland Cup) we started last
year. We will be flying on huge fields completely harvested (hopefully).
From an airport in Berlin you may have less than two hours to drive. From
Frankfurt, Germans biggest airport, it may take four hours. Bulletin 0 will
be published after the CIAM Bureau had approved it December 2nd.

Rocky Mountain FF Champs

The Magnificent Mountain Men's 40th Anniversary Rocky Mountain Champs
and FAI "Dynasty Cup" will be held Saturday September 3rd through Monday
September 5th, 2005, in Denver, Colorado. Come enjoy some of the best
flying weather of the year at our gi-normous 35 square-mile field! The
contest is America's Cup sanctioned and one of four National Cup
"exempt" contests for 2005.
F1A-B-C-P are Saturday, 7 rounds beginning at 8am. Max is 180 in all
rounds. F1G-H-J Sunday, 5 rounds beginning at 8am. Max is 120 in all
rounds.
There is also a full slate of AMA, Nos, SAM, and FAC Scale events. Send

directions to the field, motel info, etc.
The 40th Anniversary banquet is going to be really special. It will be
Saturday September 3rd at 7:30pm (cash bar at 6:30) at Hickory House
Ribs in Parker, Colorado. AMA VP's for District IX will be in attendance
as well as the founding President (1957) of the MMM Club, Ray Combs. $20
per person for the banquet includes a huge feast of smoked meats:
chicken, beef brisket, sausage, and ribs with cole slaw and beans, and
cake for dessert.
Entry fee is a mere $30 for unlimited events if received by 8/25/05.
Included with your entry is a limited edition 40th RMCs hat pin,
courtesy of the MMM Club. Additional hat pins are available at $4 each.
We also are having 4-color t-shirts made to commemorate the event. Sizes
S-XXL are available and they are $15 each. Even if you can't attend the
contest we will be happy to send you a shirt and/or a hat pin, as long
as your order is rec'd by 8/25/05. Please include $3 for postage and
idicate size and quantity. Delivery will be the first week of September.

Answer to Bob Gutai and all. Since when is complaint about illegal
facilities by AMA bitching? Don't we pay enough dues to have correct
facilities at the Nats? As I received, Hi Ed,
My 2002 - 2004 rule book also says that the "water shall have sufficient
surface area to permit unassisted
takeoffs" Sounds like leaving the facilities up to the ama was the
mistake.
As with most other governing bodies, THEIR compliance with rules is
regarded
as optional.

All of my BOP comments assume it was an AMA event. If not then tell me
where the blame lies please. Ed Mate

While the rules are specified by the AMA, the events are run by the members ..
i.e. people like us. No matter how exhorbitant we may consider the AMA
dues to be
or the entry fees charged in different contests. There is no way that this will
cover the running of the event. The people who run the
contest are not paid employees. Every year at the Nats they are always
looking for people to help run the events.
I do not know who made the pond - even if it was the AMA ground staff
it's CD of the event's responsibility to make sure it is right.
The classic case is a number of years back when George Batiuk did not
think the FF team selection finals was being run properly -
he offered to run it and show how it should be done.
All that complaining about this does is show the AMA that we do not know
how to keep our own house in order.
