F1 organisers and flyers here in Australia are watching with interest the developments in altimeter technology. Having a small population and relative low number of F1 flyers puts us in a difficult position when trying to organise World Cup or World Champs events. We have access to some of the best flying sites in the world, but procuring adequate time keepers and helpers is a major hurdle ! Altimeter and GPS technology will not only take the guesswork out of timing flights , but has the potential to drastically reduce the manpower needed to run a big contest! The whole point of F1 free flight is to push the technological boundaries within the current rules. Many of the developments in F1 classes have filtered down to our mini , vintage and nostalgia classes. Trackers for models is a classic example, not to mention vast improvements in rubber quality ! These technological advancements benefit us all , regardless of the classes we fly. We should embrace the continuing pursuit of ultimate performance in the F1 classes and in particular improved timing and tracking hardware and software .
