Jim, when I came for the first time in the US, it was in 1976, and Bob White took me to a SCAT Meeting.
I was very impressed to meet many free flighters I had seen the name in magazines...
At that time, I was member of the CIAM bureau, as French secretary, responsible of translations. FAI was originated by the French National Aero Club, and everything had to be translated, in English and French.
John Worth, who was AMA secretary was also CIAM Secretary. He was defending a proposal to have World Championships every four years instead of every two years. SCAT members wanted to know if this proposal was going to be accepted by European members. I had to talk about that, and I said that I did not think that this proposal would get support from Europe.
